Wadi Rum: the sand and the sunset in photos

Who said a sunset is only about the sun? What I love about this particular moment of the day is the light. Photographically speaking, together with sunrise, sunset is the best time to take photos: everything turns golden and the shadows are long and interesting, and I like to include them in my frames.

So last week when I was in the Wadi Rum (a desert in the south of Jordan) I was waiting for the sunset on a little sand dune… when suddenly I noticed the beauty of the unique textures that the wind forged in the red sand

Here is how a sunset in the Wadi Rum looks like… from the sand’s point of view! Enjoy.

Steps in the sand, Wadi Rum Jordan

Steps in the sand

What wind can do... Wadi Rum Jordan

What wind can do…

Waves of sand... Wadi Rum Jordan

Waves of sand…

Stripes and folds

Stripes and folds

A maze, an optical illusion

And finally the sunset over the Wadi Rum!

And finally the sunset over the Wadi Rum!

Have you ever watched the sunset in the desert? Are you a sunset lover like me? I am curious to hear about your desert experiences!

This is a really clever post, Giulia. I love the photos. Yes, I’ve seen the sun set in the desert, as I lived in a desert for 6 years in New Mexico, plus for several months in Dahab. I’m not a desert lover at all, but there is truly a lot of beauty there.

You’re not a desert lover? Oh:( I thought we could camp together some day!
Anyway, yes there’s so much beauty out there. I love all deserts and I feel so good when I am there!

Wow, that place really looks good. It gives you a very relaxed feeling as you view those photos. How I wish I can see it for myself.
