About

Hey everyone, this is Giulia.

I was born in Italy on 1983 and I am an extremely lazy person. As you can see, I wrote my year of birth so that I don’t have to update my age after every birthday! :)

Why am I a travel blogger?

Some background needed here! First of all, I always liked to travel, and I come from a family where travelling is not a taboo: my father works all around the world and is often abroad, and my mother keeps inspiring me by embarking on amazing trip to what are dream destinations to me.

Back at high school, every summer I used to go abroad for a month and study English. This way I had the chance of exploring different countries on my own since I was 13. At university I won a scholarship and spent 9 months in Scotland, studying at the University of St Andrews (and yes Prince William was there!).

After graduation I started to work in hotels, and every year at the end of the season I would have a nice trip with the money I collected from the tips (thanks guests!). This system took me to very far countries, such as Honduras and Japan… not bad!

I also spent 6 months in New York, working at first and studying photography afterwards. That was when I understood I wanted photography to be something more than just a hobby.

On 2009, I had an accident while snowboarding. Long story short, I broke a vertebra and had to spend 4 months at home. During this long and hard convalescence, I had enough time to think about my life and realized I wasn’t doing what really made me feel good: travelling! I promised myself I would’t put myself in this situation anymore, and that I would never stop travelling again… well at least as long as possible! I started writing about my previous experiences abroad and soon realized my blog was going to be my greatest travel companion.

No drama intended, but that accident really changed my life and somehow I am grateful that it happened! Otherwise I would still probably be an employee with a suit…

Why do I travel solo?

I travel solo because, well… first of all I am single. When I find a partner, I’ll be happy if we hit the road together!

Another reason is that most of the people can’t travel more than a few weeks a year, and I just don’t want to wait for that. So I started travelling alone. I realized that this is much easier than I thought and a lot of fun. It gives me the freedom to change plans during my trips, to meditate about the things I see, to do exactly what I feel like doing without having to agree on everything with someone else.

Also, as in the case of Egypt, I usually spend enough time in the places I visit to meet people and make new friends. In the end, I am never really alone!

What are my plans?

I still have to find my “home”, and it’s ok if I don’t really find one. I want to go on exploring the world and see it all before settling down! Well, I change my plans almost on a daily basis, so I have no idea where I’ll end up, but I’m fine with it… I like surprises!

I always loved to travel but now I am on what I call a “slow, slow RTW trip” – I spend a few months in a place, working to pay for my living, then move on to the next place.

Most of the time you can find me in Egypt, which has become my base. But soon I will embark on a trip to India… and I don’t have more plans after this. Keep tuned and we’ll discover the next destination together!

Testimonials:

Giulia, thank you for your help. Your website really helped me making the most out of my trip. Finding the places you recommended was like finding a treasure while on a treasure hunt. Looking for the picturesque bar in El Dokki or going up to the Pizza Hut for the best picture in Egypt, is help gotten from your website that made my trip extremely memorable.

Thank you so much for all your advise Giulia. It was so nice of you to take the time and help me out with your knowledge and experiences of Egypt. We were a little insecure about visiting Cairo as it was our first time to an Arabic Country and on top during Nov 2012 when there was another wave of unrest. You made our trip much more easy as all of your answers to my (partially trivial) questions put my mind at ease. We also appreciated the suggestions about the things we thought about seeing and the ones we did not know about. You are a great Travel blogger and a very helpful person.
I wish you many more great adventures and look forward to keep following your stories on your blog. Thanks again!

Travel Reportage is an amazing travel diary from a unique perspective of one Italian woman, Giulia Cimarosti. She is a passionate traveler & photographer who has a special bond with Egypt and chronicles her  experiences, opinions, and even shares to us her hopes and dreams from time to time. Ultimately she defines what a true traveler is – not someone who adds what has been spent after a trip, but what has been earned from the journey.

Hello there. I just checked that you want to make money as a travel writer. I’m on the same way but want to do make the travel living in a spanish blog. If you like we can exchange info each one while our blogs grow, what do you think?

by the way, you really traveled a lot, even more than me.

take care with your vertebra. cheers from Panama.

    • Well, yeah I’d definitely love to be a “professional” travel writer/photographer!
We can of course exchange info, just give me the link to your blog so that I can check it out! Just, I don’t speak Spanish, but I plan to learn some next year when I’ll be traveling across South America!
I’ll be fully recovered in a month, and I can’t wait. Thank you!
Too bad I haven’t been to Panama yet! Cheers from Italy :)

do you mind me asking how can you afford traveling so much? I wish I could do that.!

    • Well, the answer is very easy! I work, I save, I travel :D
This means no shopping, no expensive car, nothing like that… I spend big money only for traveling and for photography equipment:)
Sometimes I even travel abroad (as I did in New York City!).
      Does this answer your question?:)
